Climbing Instruction

Climbing engages and tones muscles throughout the body, including abs and core, biceps, lats, calves and forearms. 

Climbing is as cerebral as it is physical, so it's challenging on many levels. It is also a very technically-oriented pursuit, so our high-tech or engineering clients can enjoy this aspect of the sport. 

Functional sessions with our climbing clients include:

  • Safety, preparedness and risk management

  • General environmental issues relating to climbing

  • Gear, as technical as necessary

  • Climbing ethics and non-negotiable expectations with regard to climbing 

  • Knot tying and belaying

  • Instruction on climbing styles, body awareness, positioning and management

  • Footwork, footwork, footwork 

  • Review of types of grips and how to avoid pumping out too soon 

Functional Adventure provides all safety gear and we follow prevailing American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) standards and ethics. We reserve the right to end the session immediately and terminate the contract with any client who is deemed a danger to themselves or others.

Functional Training

Don't let a perceived lack of fitness stop you. We provide Functional Training specific to climbing and your fitness level.

  • Functional Assessment at your home or fitness center

  • Functional Sessions (actual climbing) to establish baselines and gauge improvement

  • Functional Training, at home or in your gym to improve general and sport-specific fitness
